New marketplaces have been emerging periodically, providing online retailers with greater convenience for selling products and services via the internet. In the last 7 months, for example, I published 10 new e-commerce website launches of this type here on the e-Plus blog , proving that they are becoming increasingly popular.
A marketplace, for those who don't know, is an online shopping mall where multiple brands sell products and services to internet users. In this mall, thanks to " split payment " technology, consumers buy from several stores and make a single payment. The retailer, in turn, benefits from the high traffic that these online malls receive.
Future of marketplaces
According to a study by Enext (2020), 80% of the entrepreneurs interviewed believe that marketplaces will become a relevant business model in the next five years. More than 30% believe that 40% or more of product searches will come from marketplaces in the future.
As you can see, marketplaces are coming with force. It's best, then, to keep an eye on them. After all, who knows, you might not find one in which you can integrate your virtual store and thus boost your sales, right? Well, check out the new releases and see if there is any compatible with your business!

HOW TO BUILD A MARKETPLACE OR SELL ON A THIRD PARTY MARKETPLACE?

If you have a project that aims to bring together producers and/or manufacturers with distributors, sellers and the general public in any sector, then maybe this could work very well as a marketplace.
By creating a marketplace you will be able to register online retailers and receive commissions on the sales they make on your online consumer platform. Imagine having, for example, more than 1.000 active sellers on a platform like this, wouldn't that be great?
However, to set up a marketplace, you first need to develop a Business Plan . Afterwards, you will need to open a company (if you don't already have one) and only then develop the e-commerce website itself.
Development
Marketplace website development can be done using an e-commerce platform like VTEX . Ideally, you should hire an e-commerce agency specializing in this platform to create the design. If you'd like to start discussing this now, simply click the button below from your smartphone and contact a developer from the e-Plus agency:
Finally, it's worth mentioning that the same VTEX platform also allows you to create a virtual store or multi-store and automatically integrate them with various third-party marketplaces. This way, your company can leverage the large audience of these sites and increase sales.
