Recent research conducted by Vtex and Semrush, involving 500 online stores of varying sizes, reveals that, on average, 49% of the traffic generated by Brazilian online stores comes from search engines.

According to the study, 37% of visits to large online stores occur after searches on search engines. Meanwhile, in small online stores this number represents 52%, which indicates that the latter are more dependent on the resource. Comparatively, large stores have greater influence on the market. Therefore, they can count on a higher volume of direct visits than small stores.

SEARCH ENGINE STATISTICS

For contextualization purposes, of the total of 600 thousand national e-commerce sites (according to “Brazilian E-commerce Profile 2017”):

  • 76,7% are small (receive up to 10 thousand visits per month)
  • 8,5% are medium-sized (receive between 10 and 500 visits per month)
  • 4,77% are large (receive more than 500 thousand visits per month)

Thus, we can say that more than 5 thousand of the 10 thousand monthly visits that fall into the sales funnel of small e-commerces come from searches carried out in search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo, among others.

Finally, the Vtex study aligns with the research "E-commerce Radar: 1st semester 2017", which demonstrated that more than half of online purchases occur after Google searches.
