Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency created by developer Satoshi Nakamoto and launched on the world wide web in February 2009, the date from which it has moved more than 30 billion dollars around the planet. In July 2015, 10 bitcoins were accounted for on the Brazilian network, which is equivalent to approximately 9 million reais.
According to data from the money services company specializing in bitcoin, Snapcard, the aforementioned digital currency already has more than 15 user merchants nationwide, many of whom own virtual stores.
To find out about some of these establishments, take a look at the Bitcoin Map (which shows 150 stores) and/or visit the Negocie Coins website (which lists stores that accept the currency in Brazil and worldwide, including Dell and Microsoft).
In practice, the benefits of using bitcoin instead of other payment methods such as online debit, bank slip and credit card, for example, are:
– Absence of regulatory body
The coin does not have a centralized and closed control room. Accounting is done in a network, decentralized and public.
– The government has no authority over bitcoin
As the currency has no regulatory body, it cannot be blocked, embargoed or frozen.
- Global reach
You can send bitcoins directly to anyone around the planet with no fee and instantly.
Among the disadvantages, in turn, weighs the lack of security caused by the lack of regulation, which allows fraud and theft to run freely without anyone preventing them.
For Snapcard managers, however, the Brazilian adhesion to bitcoin occurs out of fear of the current business scenario, in which inflation and taxes have emerged as a bigger problem.
