Intent: the third stage of the Customer Journey
To represent the Intent and Relationship phases of the Customer Journey and Inbound Marketing, respectively, this photo shows people with similar characteristics. The idea is to demonstrate that they want the same product and, furthermore, that the marketer should relate them (segment) into a single group.
Intention is when the consumer, who has gone through the Awareness and Consideration of the Customer Journey, demonstrates a desire to buy a product. Here, the retailer must relate (segment) this consumer with other consumers with similar intentions. Image: @freepik_ai-image-generator

In e-commerce, Intention refers to the third stage of the Customer Journey, when, after becoming aware of a problem and considering solutions, the consumer begins to outline the intention of making a purchase.

Just like the other stages of the Journey, Intention connects with Inbound Marketing. And Inbound, in short, is a strategy that is based on publishing content for the Customer Journey. Keep reading!

Weekly Series: Salesperson's October

Hello, e-Plus Agency blog reader , how are you? This post you are reading now is part of a weekly series in celebration of Salesperson's Day (1) and Advertising Professional's Day (17) in October 2024. There are 4 posts in total, one per week. Check it out:

  1. Awareness: the first stage of the Customer Journey
  2. Consideration: The Second Stage of the Customer Journey
  3. Intent: the third stage of the Customer Journey
  4. Decision: the fourth stage of the Customer Journey

INTENTION AND ITS CORRESPONDENT IN INBOUND MARKETING: THE RELATIONSHIP

Similar to the Customer Journey, Inbound has 4 phases:

  1. Attraction;
  2. Conversion;
  3. Relationship;
  4. Enchantment.

However, while the stages of the Customer Journey refer to the actions of the customers, those of Inbound Marketing refer to the actions that you, the marketer, must take. In other words, the consumer is searching for a solution, and you must deliver those solutions to them. In fact, in the Intention phase, specifically, consumers want to distinguish which is the right product to buy , so it is your role to help them. Learn how to do this next!

INBOUND TACTICS: CREATING RELATIONSHIP CONTENT FOR THE INTENTION PHASE

In the first two articles of this series, we narrated the fictional journey of Verdevaldo, who has a home security problem. He went through the stages of Awareness and Consideration after reading an article you, a business owner, wrote; and after registering his email in exchange for an e-book you produced.

While reading his e-book , Verdevaldo realizes that several products could help him. There are, for example, various types of alarms and cameras. He decides, then, that one camera would be enough for now. But he's still not sure exactly which camera to buy.

the tactic

Later, Verdevaldo receives an email from you with a link to an article on your blog that compares analog cameras with digital and IP cameras. He gets excited about the IP cameras, which seem to be the most modern in his view, and starts reading about them with more interest.

Meanwhile, using an Inbound and Marketing Automation platform like RD Station , you monitor each of Verdevaldo's clicks. Therefore, you now know he intends to buy an IP camera. Thus, all you have to do is segment (relate) his email to the list of consumers who also want to buy this type of camera. In short, Verdevaldo has just passed the Intention phase, and you, the marketer, have passed the Relationship phase, also called Segmentation. We will continue this story next week. Stay tuned!
