Shopping cart abandonment is the term given to the online shopping experience where the consumer selects products but then decides not to complete the purchase for no apparent reason.

As the reason is not apparent, the first thing that an entrepreneur needs to do to solve this problem is to discover the causes and then create an action plan, go into practice, evaluate the actions and restart the process, as I explain. then check it out:

1- Identify the causes:

Cart abandonment can occur for a variety of reasons, including:

– The lack of payment options

The shipping cost is too high.

– The bureaucracy when registering on the site

– Poor communication of buttons and banners

– A bad reputation

– Lack of security

- slowdown issues

– Scalability issues

Poor User Experience (UX)

– Poor Customer Experience (CX)

Use analytical tools, Site Clinic or Focus Group , among other resources, to understand the causes.

2- Create an action plan:

After identifying the reasons for cart abandonment, develop an action plan. If the reason is a button with a double meaning, consider whether it's worthwhile to involve your company's communication and front-end programming departments or a partner digital marketing agency to resolve the problem.

3- Get into practice:

Once the action plan is done, go to practice. Get in touch with the responsible sectors and make the optimizations happen. Make sure that maintenance services are performed properly. Allow time for updates to be usable by consumers.

4- Evaluate the actions:

Compare statistics before and after improvements were implemented. Check if cart abandonment has increased, decreased, or zeroed. If the dropout rate has reached 0%, there is nothing to worry about. However, if it is still too high, restart the process of identifying the causes.

5- Restart the process:

Whenever the rate is too high, restart the process of identifying the causes of cart abandonment in your online store. Repeat this process until the dropout percentage is so small that it doesn't negatively impact your bottom line.

Recently, Sebrae (Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service) estimated that 38% of Brazilian e-consumers abandon their purchases after selecting products in an online store, a very high rate that causes significant damage to e-commerce businesses.

If you don't have time to perform the optimization tasks listed in this article, I recommend hiring a back-office team or an e-commerce consulting firm to optimize your online store. In addition to reducing shopping cart abandonment, these services can help you improve other important aspects of your e-commerce business.
