WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN E-COMMERCE AND MARKETPLACE: CONCEPTS

Very well, the time has come for you to answer this crucial question, which will help you to better understand how electronic retail and wholesale works. As said, I will explain both concepts to you, starting with the marketplace. Read!

What is marketplace?

A marketplace is an online shopping mall. It's an interface for selling products and/or services via the internet. Being a shopping mall, a marketplace allows multiple companies to have stores within it and thus sell to internet users.

When an internet user enters a marketplace, they can buy from multiple stores and make a single payment thanks to a technology called " payment splitting ." This technology distributes the payment made by the internet user to the various companies involved in the transaction, such as sellers, shipping companies, banks, and the marketplace owner.

In any case, nowadays platforms like VTEX allow you to act as a retailer or wholesaler in a marketplace in two ways. The first is by being the owner of the online shopping mall, which will allow you to receive commissions on each sale. The second is by being a seller within third-party marketplaces.

What is e-commerce?

E-commerce is the English abbreviation for the term "electronic commerce," which in Portuguese means "comércio eletrônico." E-commerce is a non-face-to-face way of making sales. It takes place through electronic devices such as computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones, among others.

However, those who think that e-commerce only takes place over the internet are wrong. It also works on offline electronic equipment. Just to remind you, in 1992 (when the internet for commercial purposes did not yet exist in Brazil) Magazine Luiza kept e-commerces in terminals / totems obviously disconnected from the network.

In effect, to make sales in e-commerce via the web, you need an e-commerce website. Online stores, microsites , landing pages, multi-stores , mobile stores, and, of course, marketplaces are all e-commerce websites.

CONCLUSION: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN E-COMMERCE AND MARKETPLACE

As can be seen, the marketplace is one of the retail and electronic wholesale sales interfaces. E-commerce, on the other hand, is the general electronic market, which contains all these commerce interfaces, including the marketplace.
