Back Office is the term that refers to all the internal management operations of an e-commerce, which require little or no personal contact with consumers.
In theory, every virtual store should have a Back Office team capable of handling finance, inventory, logistics, purchasing, security and human resources, among other activities, to function well.
For example, the functions of the Back Office team are:
• Receive and analyze orders from the virtual store
• Take care of the security of financial operations
• Check consumer registration data and validate (or not) orders
• Control the warehouse so there is no surplus or shortage of products
• Prepare and ship products to carriers
• Make sure that carriers deliver on time
• Analyze the post-delivery and carry out the reverse logistic (if necessary)
Basically, all the functions performed by a Back Office team can be contained within Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software , the use of which enables leaner and error-free internal management.
The ERP allows the Back Office team to have an integral view, that is, a view of the functioning of all the internal departments of the business. In addition, it offers a statistical database of purchases, sales, deliveries, complaints, etc., which help administrators gain insights for improvement.
