The term " market niche " is used to define that segment of society that consumes a very specific type of product or service and, therefore, does not receive much attention from merchants, who prefer the larger audiences of the so-called "mass market".

Because they are relatively unexplored from a commercial standpoint, niche markets represent a great opportunity for entrepreneurs considering implementing e-commerce.

Just to give you a taste, a sensational example of a well-exploited business niche is the case of the online store Marbleking, owned by the young entrepreneur Harli Jordean, who at the age of 8 became rich selling marbles on the web.

Just like Jordan, you can also hit a niche, create that virtual store of your dreams and be very successful. To help you in this process, here are some examples of niches for you to be inspired by:

- Books

Specialize in a niche like “chess books”, “bicycle books”, “sports books”, for example. Focus on a specific group and understand their needs.

– shoes

For example, set up a virtual store that works with several brands of flip-flops, such as Havaianas, Rider and Ipanema, among others. Learn all about the topic and provide services such as custom slippers.

- Tools

Market “gardening tools”, “fishing tools”, “golden hammer tools”, etc. Provide everything you can for one of these niches.

- Parts

Sell “parts for motorcycles”, “parts for jewelry”, “parts for drones” and other groups. Become a market reference in the parts supply sector for audiences like these.

- Drinks

There are many opportunities in this field. You can sell wines, beers or liqueurs, for example. They can be industrially or homemade.

– Infoproducts

Intangible products such as e-books, spreadsheets and maps, among others that only exist in the digital world, are also a good business niche idea for you to invest and earn a lot of money.

- Gifts

Work with key chains, flip-flops, mugs, or other gifts. Offer options for customization and/or creating freebies from scratch.

– Medals

Take advantage of the fact that we are very close to the Olympics and enter the medal and trophy business. As with gifts, offer options for personalization and/or original design of each item.

– Courses

Start by offering a very special course for a particular area of expertise, such as Health, for example. Then expand to related courses and set up a virtual school.

– Comics

Open a virtual store to sell materials for comic artists. In it, you will be able to offer virtual courses, as well as software and materials for drawing.

Sebrae teaches that to choose a niche it is necessary to know beforehand if it will earn you profits after the virtual store is ready. To do this, apply the formula:

V = T x CT

Where:

– V is Sales

– T is Traffic

– TC is Conversion Rate

Use the Keyword Planner tool to find out the traffic for the niche you intend to explore. As for the conversion rate, the standard is to start with 0,5%.

Let's say, then, that you want to implement an e-commerce in the “winter dresses” niche, which has a traffic of 8.100 monthly searches according to the Keyword Planner. To find out if this store will be viable, apply the formula like this:

V = T x CT

V = 8.100 x 0,5% (0,005)

V = 40,5

In other words, your online store will initially be able to make around 40 sales per month to this audience. However, considering that the conversion rate tends to increase with greater e-commerce optimization , your sales could even triple in the future.

Important: When planning your niche e-commerce business, determine your profit margin for each dress and subtract your digital marketing expenses from that amount. In other words, calculate your Return on Investment (ROI). If you have any profit left over, then bingo, welcome to the e-commerce entrepreneur club!

And, remember (if it counts as motivation), before becoming one of the biggest virtual stores in the world and the mass market, Amazon was just an e-commerce that operated in the book niche (with only 20 items that were delivered by mail) in the 1990s.
