CHANGES IN E-COMMERCE POST COVID-19

The main changes in e-commerce post Covid-19 are:

01 – Increase in online shopping

According to research by SBVC , 61% of consumers who shopped online during quarantine increased their online purchases. According to the institution, this behavior is due to social isolation. In other words, most people are using e-commerce more and only leave home when absolutely necessary.

02 - Consumption habits

According to the same survey mentioned in topic 01, of consumers who during the quarantine made an online purchase for the first time in their lives, 70% intend to continue with the new habit. The president of SBVC, Eduardo Terra, said that companies that relate well to these clients will have an advantage in the post-crisis period.

03 - Above average growth

The 41st edition of the Webshoppers report indicates that the Covid-19 crisis accelerated the growth of e-commerce in Brazil. To give an idea, from the second half of March to the end of April 2020, there was a 48,3% increase in revenue compared to the same period in 2019. In the first four months of 2020, the sector had already surpassed last year's revenue by 32%.

04 - Growth in B2B

Revenue from B2B e-commerce, which encompasses sales from businesses to other businesses, also increased. The share of e-commerce sales in B2B company revenues rose by 62% in 2020, according to data released by the consulting firm McKinsey in early May.

05 - Logistic handling

Based on a study conducted with 74 medium and large-sized e-commerce companies, the management software provider Senior Sistemas indicates an increase of 13,9% in February, 18,1% in March, and 110% in April 2020 in the logistics movement of national e-commerce compared to the same periods in 2019.

06 - Searches for products and services

According to a study by Promobit , the demand for men's shoes in e-commerce grew by 158,31% and for women's shoes by 6,86%, which has boosted the fashion sector. Searches for smartphones increased by 88,27%, for televisions by 55,32%, and for cleaning products by 38,31%. Meanwhile, searches for airline tickets fell by 66,41% and for furniture and home decor by 10,08%.

07 - Marketing Budget

According to a survey conducted in March 2020 by the influencer marketplace, Inflr , companies changed the way they handle marketing during the Covid-19 crisis. Initially, they reduced their investments in this resource by 60%. After the initial impact of the quarantine, however, 53% of the budget was reallocated to other campaigns. Of this percentage, 41% was directed towards running promotions on e-commerce platforms.

08 - Migration to digital

According to estimates from the Brazilian Association of Electronic Commerce (ABComm), approximately 80 new online stores may have been developed since March 2020. This represents a 30% increase in migration to digital in just two months, something unprecedented in the history of Brazilian e-commerce.

09 - Hiring of personnel

The need for digital acceleration, in turn, has generated high demand for hiring technology professionals. Robert Half Recruitment Consultancy reveals that professions in the areas of IT infrastructure, cloud, information security, and development have been the most sought after at the moment.

10 – Work from home office

Throughout March and April 2020, sales of office chairs grew by 87% compared to the previous 30 days. This indirectly exposes the increase in working from home, which has the potential to become a trend in the post-crisis period. Companies like Pormade Portas, for example, are already considering continuing with this new way of working in the future.
