I was recently talking to a friend about " How much does an online store cost ?" when, in the middle of the conversation, the question arose: "What's the difference between e-commerce and e-business?". So, I promised him I would answer this question on the e-Plus Agency blog. Check out my answer below.

What is the difference between e-commerce and e-business?

But before explaining the difference between e-commerce and e-business, I will address the similarity. Both terms have the vowel “e” at the beginning, which as everyone knows means “electronic”.

Therefore, both e-business and e-commerce develop through electronic means, but not necessarily on the internet. For example, when Magazine Luiza created an e-commerce model in 1992, it only had a few kiosks that were not connected to the internet, which would only be made available for commercial purposes in Brazil in 1995.

As for the difference between the terms, it should be noted that:

The e-business

Also called electronic business, it concerns the total business interests. That is, it relates to the set of actions that make a company what it is in the economic scenario. Thus, the focus of e-business is not necessarily the commercial transaction.

In contrast, e-business aims primarily to pave the way for commercial transactions to occur more naturally. Ultimately, e-business is about global strategy, organizational culture , expansion, interaction with laws, governments, partners, etc.

What is the difference between e-commerce and e-business? One aims at sales to the final consumer and the other aims to pave the way for the company to grow sustainably.

e-commerce

Also called electronic commerce, it is related to the sale of products and services through electronic means to the final consumer. When integrated with the internet, then e-commerce is said to be online retail.

E-commerce, therefore, is contained within e-business. In this context, its main tool is the virtual store, which, once online, carries out commercial transactions 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Importance of e-commerce and e-business

Very good. Now you know the difference between e-commerce and e-business. In this way, you must have already realized how important it is to take care of both parts. That is, as your e-commerce grows, the need for e-business also increases.

In fact, if you can have an e-commerce manager and an e-business manager on your team, that will be the best for your company. That's because while the first makes sales to the consumer, the second creates broader links with business partners and maintains the stability of your business, or if you prefer, prepares your business for a sustainable expansion.
