The launch of an online store by Parque das Aves is news that shines brightly in the tourism sector. In Brazil, this sector suffered revenue drops exceeding 50% (IBGE) due to the Covid-19 crisis. Therefore, the famous park implemented a very clever survival strategy, which I will discuss throughout this post.

First and foremost, the Bird Park is a private tourist attraction located near the Iguaçu Falls in Paraná. Founded in 1994, it covers 16 hectares of Atlantic Forest, home to various animal species. It is an institution focused on the conservation of birds in this forest.

The site has trails that can be traversed by tourists. From them it is possible to observe local birds and environments that mimic ecosystems. Tickets cost from R$60,00 to up to R$250,00 (depending on the type of experience).

However, with the quarantine periods decreed around the world, the park has been empty and, therefore, without resources for maintenance. That's when its administrators came up with the idea of launching an e-commerce. Find out then how it was developed.

PARQUE DAS AVES LAUNCHES VIRTUAL STORE BASED ON A CONTINGENCY PLAN

According to news published on the website O Presente , the Parque das Aves e-commerce platform was born from a Contingency Plan. In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, the institution's managers created a team tasked with generating survival alternatives for the attraction. This resulted in two projects: the first was a donation program, and the second was the creation of an online store.

From then on, the development of e-commerce relied on the engagement and participation of volunteers. The product mix , for example, was created through a partnership between the park and local artists and clothing manufacturers. Volunteers acted as models to showcase the products in the online storefront. The project also received help from various professionals in the region, such as photographers and makeup artists.

That is to say, the manufacture of products takes into account ethics and socio-environmental responsibility. These concepts influence the business in many ways. For example, the factories are close together, which reduces the pollution caused by transporting raw materials and finished products over long distances. Products are durable and employees are valued.

Anyway, find out in the next topic what the online store is like and what are the product categories of this Tourism e-commerce.

WHAT IS THE PARQUE DAS AVES VIRTUAL STORE LIKE

The news “Parque das Aves launches a virtual store” may seem strange at first, since we in e-commerce are not used to the idea that a park can operate in e-commerce. But it is possible.

The Parque das Aves online store features products inspired by the animals, materials, and themes of the Atlantic Forest. These products are sold online in six categories:

  • parade: park-themed fashion for children, youth and adults;
  • Nest: clothes, bibs and plush toys for babies;
  • cuties: stuffed birds;
  • Library: books like “Aves de Iguaçu” and “A Mata Atlântica is here. So what?”, among others;
  • Precious: topaz, agate and amethyst earrings and pendants;
  • Memories: mugs, bags, straws, miniatures and other gifts and souvenirs.

The e-commerce accepts payment by credit card. Shipping is carried out through PAC and SEDEX modalities throughout Brazil. The website is secured with an SSL certificate. It also has a search field, virtual cart, “My Account” panel and integrations with social networks.

As the institution is against rampant consumerism, the central idea of this e-commerce is to encourage purchase with purpose. In other words, the Marketing calls revolve around the theme that every purchase made in this online store supports the maintenance of Parque das Aves.

CONTINGENCY PLAN IN TOURISM

Contingency Plan: in crises, minimize losses and recognize opportunities
Contingency Plan: in crises, minimize losses and recognize opportunities

As can be seen, from a Contingency Plan, Parque das Aves created alternatives for the maintenance of its infrastructure and services during the Covid-19 crisis. Many companies in the industry need to do the same more than ever.

The Contingency Plan moves the company, involves partnerships, includes society. If the cause is a good one, many people will certainly show up to help. Therefore, as I said at the beginning, this Parque das Aves project is a small ray of light in the Tourism sector.
