The opening of online stores in the country increased by 40% between June 2018 and June 2019, according to research conducted by the payment company PayPal Brazil.
A similar study by the same company showed growth of only 12,5% two years ago (June to June 2017 and 2018).
In other words, the current increase is almost three times that of the previous one.
Hence, the question remains: why is this such large variation occurring?

REASONS FOR THE ABNORMAL INCREASE IN THE OPENING OF ONLINE STORES
Why, in fact, are Brazilians creating more and more virtual stores?
Well, among the main reasons are the following:
- E-commerce platforms are getting easier and easier to use
- Renting e-commerce platforms is getting cheaper and cheaper
- The maintenance of a virtual store is low cost compared to other sales channels
- The possibility of selling services and products throughout Brazil and beyond is a great attraction
- An e-commerce stays open 24 hours a day, every day of the year
- The entrepreneur can work in a Home Office and so be closer to the family
- Low wages in fixed jobs lead people to look for other sources of income
- Fixed jobs are rarer and precarious, which makes online stores an alternative

Furthermore, the stagnant economy and the resulting layoffs are creating opportunities in e-commerce. In this scenario, many people have invested their severance pay in building e-commerce websites.

HOW MANY VIRTUAL STORES ARE THERE IN BRAZIL CURRENTLY?
It is estimated that, in Brazil, there are somewhere between 900 thousand and 1 million active virtual stores.
Most of them (89%), however, are small.

Furthermore, 44% of these online businesses are companies that do not have employees.
That is, they belong to individual micro-entrepreneurs who work alone.
In addition, each of these online stores receives an average of 100 to 10 unique monthly visitors.
In this context, if we take into account that the average national e-commerce sales conversion is 1%, then each of these small e-commerce sites makes 1 to 100 sales per month.
So it's really worth getting into e-commerce, isn't it?
