For e-commerce merchants, understanding online shopper behavior is crucial for sales success. Therefore, in this post I'll share some data from a study conducted by Oktadesk in partnership with Opinion Box on this topic.

The research, titled “ E-commerce Trends 2024 ”, took into account the opinions of more than 2 female and male consumers interviewed in 2023, throughout Brazil, aged 16 and over, and from all social classes. Read on!

ONLINE SHOPPERS STATISTICS

According to the “E-commerce Trends 2024” study, the majority of consumers make more purchases online than in physical stores. This is a very interesting fact, which demonstrates that e-commerce in Brazil is becoming more powerful every day. Note some data:

  • 58% of consumers buy more online than in physical stores;
  • 22% buy more in physical stores than online;
  • 14% shop equally in physical stores and online;
  • 6% buy only online.

Furthermore, the research also revealed that the frequency of online purchases is reasonable. Around ¼ of consumers make online purchases every two weeks. Look:

  • 85% buy online at least once a month;
  • 33% shop once a month;
  • 23% buy once every 1 weeks;
  • 17% buy online once a week;
  • 15% shop less than once a month;
  • 12% shop online several times a week.

And also according to the “E-commerce Trends 2024” research:

  • 62% of online shoppers make 2 to 5 purchases in a typical month;
  • 21% buy only once a month;
  • 13% of online shoppers make 6 to 10 purchases in 30 days;
  • 3% buy between 11 and 20% per month in e-commerce;
  • 1% buy more than 20 times a month online.

As can be seen, e-commerce has been gaining ground compared to traditional commerce. In the coming years, with more and more digital natives entering the job market, the tendency is for e-commerce to surpass physical commerce in many other factors.

WHICH CHANNELS DO ONLINE SHOPPERS BUY ON?

According to the “E-commerce Trends” study:

  • 63% of online shoppers buy from online stores;
  • 60% like to buy from us marketplaces;
  • 49% buy via the store’s app;
  • 36% of online buyers use aggregator apps;
  • 12% of consumers prefer to buy via social networks;
  • 12% like to buy via classifieds sites;
  • 9% of online shoppers purchase products via WhatsApp;
  • 1% use other online means.

In short, this preference for online stores shows that this sales channel is key to success in e-commerce. However, other important channels such as marketplace in , marketplace out , and apps, among others, cannot be overlooked .
